Musculus rhomboideus major

Rhomboid Major

The rhomboid major lies deep to the trapezius and retracts the scapula toward the spine while assisting elevation and downward rotation. It is heavily recruited in rows and scapular retraction work, and strong rhomboids counteract rounded-shoulder posture by holding the shoulder blades back and down.

Actions
Scapular retraction, Scapular elevation, Scapular downward rotation
Origin
Spinous processes and supraspinous ligaments of T2-T5
Insertion
Medial border of the scapula, below the spine (inferior to the root of the spine)
Innervation
Dorsal scapular nerve (C4-C5)
Blood supply
Dorsal scapular artery
