The parallel-bar dip supports the full bodyweight on two parallel bars and lowers until the elbows reach about 90 degrees before pressing back up. Staying vertical with the elbows tucked and back behind the body emphasizes the triceps; leaning forward with elbows flared shifts emphasis to the chest. It carries lower shoulder risk than the bench dip and is easily loaded with a dip belt for progression.
