Supraspinatus
Musculus supraspinatus
The supraspinatus sits in the supraspinous fossa and initiates the first ~15 degrees of arm abduction before the deltoid takes over. As a rotator cuff muscle it compresses the humeral head into the glenoid, keeping the joint centered. Its tendon passes under the acromion and is the most commonly torn or impinged structure in the cuff, so prehab and controlled overhead loading matter for lifters.
