Pronator Teres

Musculus pronator teres

Pronator teres is the main fast pronator of the forearm, turning the palm downward and assisting weakly with elbow flexion. It is loaded by pronation-resisted curls and any movement that drives the palm from supinated toward pronated under load. The median nerve passes between its two heads, where it can be compressed in pronator teres syndrome.

Actions
Forearm pronation, Weak elbow flexion
Origin
Humeral head from the medial epicondyle (common flexor tendon) and medial supracondylar ridge; ulnar head from the coronoid process of the ulna
Insertion
Lateral surface of the middle of the radius (pronator tuberosity)
Innervation
Median nerve (C6-C7)
Blood supply
Ulnar and radial arteries (anterior ulnar recurrent artery)
Heads
Humeral head, Ulnar head
