Spinalis
Musculus spinalis
The spinalis is the smallest and most medial of the three erector spinae columns, running closest to the spinous processes. It assists spinal extension and, in its cervical and cranial portions, extension and rotation of the head and neck. It contributes to the deep extensor work that stabilizes the spine during heavy hinging and squatting.
