Tibialis Anterior
Musculus tibialis anterior
The tibialis anterior is the main muscle of the anterior shin compartment, dorsiflexing the ankle and inverting the foot. It is crucial for clearing the foot during the swing phase of gait and for deceleration; weakness causes foot drop. Strengthening it (tib raises, toe walks) improves ankle balance and helps prevent shin splints.
