Flexor Digitorum Longus
Musculus flexor digitorum longus
The flexor digitorum longus is a deep posterior compartment muscle that flexes the four lesser toes and assists ankle plantarflexion and inversion. It contributes to toe grip and balance during the stance and push-off phases of gait. Along with the other deep flexors it supports the foot’s arches and is relevant to barefoot and foot-strengthening training.
