Splenius Cervicis
Musculus splenius cervicis
The deeper, lower partner of the splenius capitis that extends and rotates the cervical spine toward the same side. It contributes to posterior neck thickness and cervical extension strength trained alongside the splenius capitis in any neck-extension protocol.

- Cervical extension (bilateral), Ipsilateral cervical rotation (unilateral), Ipsilateral cervical lateral flexion (unilateral)
- Origin
- Spinous processes of T3-T6.
- Insertion
- Posterior tubercles of the transverse processes of C1-C3 (C4).
- Innervation
- Lateral branches of the posterior (dorsal) rami of the lower cervical spinal nerves.
- Blood supply
- Deep cervical, transverse cervical, and occipital arteries.
