The seated calf raise is performed with the knees bent under a thigh pad, which slackens the gastrocnemius and shifts the work onto the soleus. Because the soleus is slow-twitch and fatigue-resistant, this movement responds well to higher reps and longer time under tension. Press the balls of the feet up to a firm contraction and lower until the calves are fully stretched.
