Tutoring and Hanging Out
I am doing a little bit of tutoring with the kids over the summer. They have done great adapting to school, but there are some occasional gaps that they need help with. Even more than that however, they are all naturally smart and I want to help them excel in whatever environment they are in - even if it’s not an absolutely ‘ideal’ one such as a traditional school system.
The thing I am trying to focus on the most is math, since i have some natural affinity for it, and it is a more difficult subject to grasp since it is more abstract. They all have good natural ability in it themselves, and in general once we get over the hump of getting started the tutoring goes well.
I am also having the girls work on print and cursive. They are self-motivated to learn cursive interestingly - they like how it looks, and it’s fun to write :)
Heloise really likes to hangout with me and continues to be my buddy. It eats up a lot of my time, but it’s a happy sacrifice to get to see the kids more and hopefully have a positive impact on their future.
The Grimace Shake
We use Greenlight for account management and letting the kids. One of the things it does is gives me an alert when the kids spend money.
I noticed this morning before i had picked up Birdie that she had spent $23 on a McDonald’s Doordash.
Apparently the Grimace Shake is a big thing right now and Brigetta has been dying to try it out. She put in an order on a meal this morning to get it bc she was hungry and wanted it. Sadly she got called by the doordasher telling her the shake was out. She was weirded out about talking to a stranger over the phone so she froze up and didn’t get a replacement drink (despite it being included in the price). And she doesn’t like the fries either…so she gave those to Raz.
So in the end we had a great laugh bc she ended up spending $23 for a single burger. A lesson learned in good spirits. I love it when she busts up laughing. We trigger giggle fits in each other at times.
