Alpaca Feeding !

The Blank Park Zoo has replaced the older camel riding area with an Alpaca feeding zone. We went for a visit today. The Alpacas are extremely cute, and feel like walking, very thick rugs. They also don’t really care a bit about the people other than as sources of food. One of the staff was nice enough to do a particular little move to get one alpaca to lay down, which makes them far calmer and more amenable to being pet. It felt a bit like enormous bunnies eating off your palm when they fed. They have enormous lips with slightly stiff fur, and they use them to grab them off your palm. With no to very little saliva - which was a pleasant bonus. We grabbed some coffee before we went, played 20 questions along the drive and did a quick walk through of the zoo as always. Now it is spring, the zoo is a perfect short visit. It’s small so we can get through quickly, but has plenty of interest to see. Turtle Lou Turtle Bird

Even Huxley was smiling with the alpacas. I got to get that kid a dog soon. Birdie did a good job of getting over her anxiousness and let the alpaca eat out of her hand.
