Homeschooling

**Word of the Day: **suspend

All

Dad got Love2D installed on his laptop so he can get a bit ahead of the kids progress in order to more easily answer (the many) questions they have as they author their own programs and games.

Erasmus

Raz spent the majority of time outside today. He decided to do some garbage cleanup on the creek on his own. We took some opportunity to apply math to real world questions to figure out the % of risk from Covid and the death death rate (around 6% according to Google!). He also really takes to programming in Love2d so far - the constructivist environment and immediate visual feedback works well for him. Using a coordinate system and variables to animate and draw shapes provides a nice tie to geometry. video

Huxley

Huxley spent hours playing piano - it’s his favorite non-screen activity. He continues to love the Simply Piano app which gamifies playing pop songs by displaying music to play along with accompaniment and it actually listens to the notes you play and gives a rating at the end.

Brigetta

Continues to have fun in Iowa with family - but is always excited to listen to Harry Potter.

Heloise

Lou woke up early and hung out with dad and did some math on Khan Academy. She seems to enjoy it and does well wit it. We also did some shape flash cards, and she made some major headway with reading flash cards. She’s really digging putting letters and words together into real sentences. She’ll be reading on her own within a couple weeks. video

Bunnies

The bunnies drive dad nuts with the incredible amount of poop they create and their enjoyment of destroying the brand new yard…but the kids love to hang with them daily. Tank doesn’t seem to mind them at all:

We watched Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle tonight as a treat. Lou asked me to get skittles so she could perform an experiment:

Reading

We read a bit more of Harry Potter tonight - and discovered who Nicolas Flamel was in the Sorceror’s Stone
