Flexor Digitorum Profundus Tendons

The flexor digitorum profundus tendons pass through the carpal tunnel and the splits of the superficialis tendons to insert on the distal phalanges, flexing the fingertips. They are the structures that bear maximal load in crush and hook grip during deadlifts and weighted hangs. Avulsion of an FDP tendon (‘jersey finger’) is a classic gripping injury.
