Extensor Digitorum Tendons

The extensor digitorum tendons fan out across the back of the hand and form the extensor expansions (hoods) over the fingers, opening the hand and balancing the finger flexors. They are the visible cords on the dorsum of the hand and the targets of finger-extension training used to protect against flexor-dominant overuse. Disruption at the fingertip produces a ‘mallet finger.’
