Achilles Tendon
Tendo calcaneus

The Achilles tendon is the thickest and strongest tendon in the human body, formed by the merging of the gastrocnemius and soleus (the triceps surae) and inserting on the calcaneus. It transmits the calf’s plantarflexion force for walking, running, and jumping and stores elastic energy for propulsion. It is a frequent site of tendinopathy and rupture, so progressive loading (e.g. eccentric heel drops) is central to its rehab and conditioning.
