Platysma
Musculus platysma
A broad, thin sheet of muscle in the superficial fascia of the anterior neck that tenses neck skin and depresses the lower lip and jaw. A muscle of facial expression rather than a strength-training target, it is included for regional completeness and is relevant cosmetically (neck banding) rather than for load-bearing performance.

- Depression of the mandible and lower lip, Tensing the skin of the neck, Drawing down the corners of the mouth (grimace)
- Origin
- Fascia overlying the upper pectoralis major and deltoid (subcutaneous tissue over the clavicle and upper chest).
- Insertion
- Base of the mandible, skin of the lower face, and modiolus/corner of the mouth.
- Innervation
- Cervical branch of the facial nerve (CN VII).
- Blood supply
- Submental branch of the facial artery and suprascapular branch of the thyrocervical trunk.
